I’ve been using an open-emitter red dot for the last couple of years and decided to try the RD3-031 HELIOS after seeing that it uses an RMR footprint. I wanted an enclosed optic but wasn’t ready to spend $400+ on one. I've had it mounted for several range sessions now and so far I'm very impressed. The glass is clear, the reticle gets plenty bright, and I really like having six different reticle options. I thought six might be overkill, but it's actually nice being able to switch between a simple dot for more precise shooting and a larger circle-dot when I want something faster to pick up. The enclosed housing is probably my favorite part. Dust and lint around the emitter were always annoying with my old optic. With the HELIOS, everything is sealed inside, so cleaning it is basically the same as cleaning a pair of glasses. The rechargeable battery was new to me as well. I wasn't sure I would like it, but the magnetic charging cable makes it very convenient. I can charge it while the optic stays mounted, so there is no reason to disturb the zero. Motion awake has worked every time I've tested it. Let it sit and it goes to sleep; move it and the reticle comes right back on. Most importantly, it has stayed zeroed and hasn't given me any problems so far. Time will tell how it holds up long term, but based on my experience so far, ADE packed a surprising amount into this optic for the price. If you've been wanting to try an enclosed RMR-style red dot without spending several hundred dollars, the HELIOS is definitely worth looking at.

I originally bought one just to try ADE’s new enclosed optic. I already had a more expensive red dot that I was happy with, so my expectations weren’t particularly high. After a few trips to the range, I ended up liking the HELIOS enough that I ordered another one for a different setup. The biggest thing for me is the enclosed emitter. I shoot outdoors and my optics eventually end up covered in dust, moisture and general range grime. Not having an exposed emitter makes cleaning much easier. The window is a good size for a pistol optic and the reticle is easy for me to find. There are six reticle patterns, although realistically I mostly switch between the plain 2 MOA dot and one of the circle-dot patterns. I also really like being able to recharge it with the magnetic cable. No need to remove the optic just because the battery needs charging. Motion awake has been reliable as well—I can leave it sitting, come back later, pick it up and the reticle wakes immediately. One thing worth mentioning is to check which screws your setup requires before installing it. ADE includes several different screw sets because not every RMR-cut slide or plate uses the same threads. I’ve put enough rounds through the first one now that I’m comfortable keeping it installed. Zero hasn't shifted and everything is still tight. Is it the same as buying a $500 optic? I'm not going to make that claim. But for what the HELIOS costs and the features you get, I think ADE did a really good job with this one.

I bought the HELIOS mainly because I wanted an enclosed RMR-footprint optic without spending several hundred dollars. I’ve owned a few ADE sights before, but this is definitely a step up from the older models. I was actually a little skeptical about the rechargeable battery at first. After using it for a while, it’s probably one of my favorite features. I can leave the optic mounted and just connect the magnetic charging cable when needed instead of removing anything. The motion activation also works well. After sitting for a couple minutes it goes to sleep, and as soon as I pick it up the reticle comes right back. The enclosed design is another big improvement. With my open red dots I’m constantly cleaning dust and lint from around the emitter. With this one I basically just wipe the front and rear glass. I also like the six reticle choices more than I expected. I started with the basic dot but eventually switched to a circle-dot combination because I can pick it up faster. Installation is a little different because of ADE’s mounting design, so I definitely recommend reading the instructions instead of just treating it like a normal RMR optic. Once I understood how it worked, though, the optic felt extremely solid on the mount. So far it has held zero through several range trips and I haven’t had anything loosen up. For around $100, I honestly wasn’t expecting this many features. Very happy with it so far.

i 've been using it for a few weeks on my RMR-cut pistol. The closed emitter design was the main reason I bought it, and I like not having to worry about dust or lint getting on the emitter. The glass is clear and the multiple reticle options are a nice feature. My only hesitation is that the housing is a little bulkier than the open-emitter optic I was previously using, so it took some time to adjust my presentation and find the dot consistently. After a few range sessions it's getting better, but there's definitely a learning curve if you're switching from a smaller optic. Overall, I think it's a solid product with good features for the price. It hasn't given me any problems, but it also didn't immediately wow me. I'd call it a dependable mid-range option rather than a perfect one.

The dot is visible and the optic held zero during my range session, but I found the brightness buttons to be a little stiff and awkward to press, especially while wearing gloves. It's not a major defect, but it was enough to bother me during use. Overall it's an okay optic, just not my favorite after trying several others.
