    Handy Little Shop Tool

Posted by Eric Simmons on 25th Jul 2026

Not every tool has to be expensive to be useful. This vise block has become one of those items I automatically grab whenever I'm working on a 1911. It fits my Colt Competition and Springfield Mil-Spec well enough to keep the frame stable while changing parts or doing deep cleanings. Having both hands free instead of trying to hold the pistol makes a surprising difference. I've probably used it a dozen times already, and it still looks almost new. For anyone building a home gunsmithing bench, I'd definitely recommend adding this to the toolbox.

Makes DIY 1911 Maintenance Much Easier

Posted by Anthony Collins on 25th Jul 2026

I've owned 1911 pistols for almost twenty years, but only recently started doing my own maintenance instead of paying a local gunsmith for every little upgrade. Installing new sights, replacing springs, fitting safeties, and changing triggers all became projects I wanted to learn myself. One thing I quickly discovered was how awkward it is to hold a stripped frame while trying to work on it. After reading about vise blocks, I decided to give this one a try. Installation was straightforward. It inserted into the frame easily and locked securely enough that I felt comfortable clamping it in my bench vise. Once mounted, the pistol stayed stable throughout the entire project. I no longer had to fight with the frame sliding around or worry about accidentally scratching it with the vise jaws. During the past couple of months I've used it while replacing a mainspring housing, polishing internal parts, swapping grip safeties, and performing complete detail cleanings after range trips. It has already paid for itself simply by making each job easier and less frustrating. The polymer has shown very little wear, even after multiple installations and removals. I wouldn't call it a professional gunsmith shop tool that's meant to survive daily commercial use, but for enthusiasts who maintain several 1911 pistols at home, I think it's an excellent value. Sometimes the simplest tools end up being the ones you reach for the most, and that's definitely been my experience with this vise block.

    Nice Tool with Minor Drawbacks

Posted by Kevin Morales on 25th Jul 2026

The concept is good, but mine had a little flashing from the molding process that I had to trim before it fit smoothly into my pistol frame. After cleaning it up it worked fine, but I was hoping not to do any modification on a brand-new tool. It still functions, and I continue using it, but quality control could be a little better.

Excellent Addition to My Gunsmith Bench

Posted by Jonathan Reeves on 25th Jul 2026

I've accumulated quite a few specialty tools over the years, and this has become one of those items that gets used far more often than I expected. Most of my firearm work involves several different 1911 pistols including Colts, Springfields, and a couple of custom builds. Having a dedicated vise block makes the entire process more organized. The block slides into the frame securely and gives plenty of support while the frame is clamped in the vise. I replaced grip safeties, installed a new beavertail, fitted a trigger, and cleaned multiple pistols without worrying about the frame moving around. It also keeps both hands free instead of trying to stabilize the gun while driving stubborn pins. The polymer material has held up well despite repeated use. I don't expect it to last forever under professional shop abuse, but for anyone maintaining their own collection it's more than adequate. Considering how inexpensive it is compared to the cost of a quality 1911, this is money well spent.

Not a Perfect Fit for Every 1911

Posted by Steven Hall on 25th Jul 2026

The block worked well with my Colt, but my budget imported 1911 required a little extra pressure before it seated properly. Once installed it held fine, but I expected a more universal fit. Overall it's still usable, just don't expect every manufacturer to fit exactly the same. If most of your pistols are true Colt-spec, you'll probably be happier than I was.

    Does the Job

Simple tool that works exactly as expected. It fit my Rock Island 1911 with no issues and made detail cleaning easier. Nothing fancy, but it's a useful addition if you work on 1911 pistols.

    Better Than Improvising

Posted by Daniel Brooks on 25th Jul 2026

I've spent years using folded towels and homemade wooden blocks while working on my 1911s. After finally buying this vise block, I wish I had done it much sooner. The fit on my Springfield Loaded and Colt Series 70 was snug enough to keep everything stable while staking parts and drifting pins. I mounted it in a standard bench vise and it stayed put throughout the job. It's lightweight but feels durable enough for hobby use. If you're someone who occasionally upgrades triggers, safeties, or mainspring housings, this saves time and makes everything feel much more controlled.

Great Bench Tool for 1911 Work

Posted by Michael Turner on 25th Jul 2026

I picked this up for cleaning and replacing a thumb safety on my Colt Government Model. It held the frame securely without feeling like it would scratch anything. It made driving pins much easier than trying to balance the pistol on a bench block. For the price, it's a handy tool that I'll keep using for future projects.
