This is a dark colored vial containing about 10 grams of Refractive Index Fluid for use with any gem refractometer.
Comparable to more expensive chemicals, this one is economical.
It works great with any stone up to about 1.80+.
Contained in an amber glass vial, with an applicator in the lid to allow application of a tiny amount.
Does not contain Arsenic.
Because the bottle is fragile, we sealed the rim with WAX in order to protect the liquid inside, This may sometimes appear to be crusted shut. It's not

Essential Tool for Serious Gem Collectors
I've been collecting gemstones for nearly twenty years and periodically verify stones from auctions, estate sales, and private collections. Reliable refractive index measurements are one of the most important tests available, so I never compromise on RI fluid quality. This product exceeded my expectations. The fluid creates excellent optical contact and produces distinct readings across a wide range of materials. During recent testing sessions I examined garnets, tourmalines, spinels, quartz, beryl, and corundum specimens. The readings matched expected values and helped confirm several questionable stones. Another benefit is the bottle design, which allows precise dispensing without wasting material. The fluid remains clear and usable even after repeated openings. Based on my experience, this is a dependable product suitable for hobbyists, students, jewelry professionals, and serious collectors alike.

Slight Leakage During Shipping
The fluid itself worked fine and provided accurate readings on my refractometer. However, my bottle had a small amount of leakage inside the package when it arrived. Fortunately, very little product was lost and customer service responded promptly. Since the fluid performs well, I'm still giving it three stars, but I hope packaging can be improved in the future.

Long-Lasting and Economical
I've purchased several bottles of refractive index fluid over the years and this one compares favorably with products costing significantly more. The bottle seals tightly and doesn't appear to evaporate as quickly as some competing brands. I use it mainly for examining colored stones acquired from gem shows and estate sales. The measurements obtained are consistent and repeatable. The clarity of the fluid makes observation easier and helps reduce uncertainty during testing. Shipping was fast, packaging was secure, and the product arrived exactly as described. Overall, an excellent value for anyone maintaining a gemological workstation.

Great for Learning Gem Identification
As someone relatively new to gemology, I wasn't sure whether all RI fluids were basically the same. After using this product in my home lab, I can say it definitely gets the job done. The fluid spreads nicely on the refractometer and creates excellent optical contact. I was able to successfully distinguish several gemstones that had previously confused me when relying only on visual inspection. The shadow edge was crisp and easy to interpret. What impressed me most was how little fluid was required for each test. One small drop is usually enough, making the bottle last much longer than I originally expected. Very satisfied with the purchase.

Works Exactly as Described
Needed RI fluid quickly for a gemology course and this worked perfectly. The bottle size was larger than expected and should last me a long time. Readings were clear and easy to obtain.

Reliable Results for Professional Use
I operate a small jewelry appraisal business and accurate refractive index readings are essential to my work. This fluid has become my go-to choice because it consistently provides clean contact between the stone and refractometer surface. I've tested diamonds, sapphires, spinels, garnets, quartz varieties, and numerous synthetic materials using this fluid. The readings have been repeatable and reliable. The viscosity is appropriate and easy to control, preventing excessive waste. After several months of use, the fluid remains stable and clear. I store it properly and have experienced no degradation. I would confidently recommend this product to students, hobbyists, and professionals alike.

Good Product, Secure Packaging
The bottle arrived well packaged with no leaks. I purchased it as a replacement for an older bottle that had expired. The fluid produced sharp shadow edges on my refractometer and helped me quickly identify several stones from an estate collection. For the price, I have no complaints. Will buy again when needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Decent refractometer!
After getting some duds in this price range, I was pleased to get this refractometer. It gives a good clear reading and feels like a quality instrument. This style is easier for me to use on faceted gems than the more $ GIA model. You need to order the RI fluid separately (expect to spend around $80 for the good stuff). My only complaint is that you better have extra batteries on hand in case you accidently leave the internal light on (there is a side push button), as there is no way to use an external light source. And the directions for the batteries and battery compartment don't match this instrument, but you can easily figure it out. Other than that, this is great quality and value.

The bottle was received and had leaked. It has a very bad smell that is difficult to remove. I asked for a refund yesterday, and have not heard back.
