Product Features

  • Handheld portable refractometer for Brix measurement of a wide range (28.0 to 62.0%) of sugar content in concentrated fruit juices, soft drink syrup, canned goods, and ketchup
  • Automatic temperature compensation and calibrated with a liquid standard using a tool-free calibration ring
  • Ambient light illuminates the scale; no additional power source is required
  • Durable metal and rubber outer shell with a telescope-shaped, streamlined design, a rubber grip to guard against hand heat for accurate measurements, and a non-roll stand to protect against damage
  • Optical glass prism mounted in all-metal housing for quick temperature equilibrium between sample and prism

The unit is factory-calibrated and can be calibrated with a liquid standard. Calibration can be controlled and adjusted with a tool-free calibration ring and a set screw. The outer shell is rubber coated with dimpled grip for easy gripping and the rubber coating guards against hand heat for accurate measurements. A non-roll stand prevents the unit from rolling when placed on a flat surface such as a table or bench top. The optical glass prism is mounted in an all-metal housing composed of copper alloy with a nickel-chrome coating for quick temperature equilibrium between the sample and the prism. The analog Brix scale features a bright, high-contrast display for clear visibility of the boundary and memory lines intersection. Instantaneous sample readings illuminated by ambient light are viewed through a monocular, focusable, cushioned eyepiece. The unit comes with a mini screwdriver, a plastic transfer pipet and an instruction manual.

    Learning Curve for Thick Samples

Posted by Karen on 5th Aug 2026

The refractometer itself works well, but thick jams and preserves take a little practice to measure correctly. You need a smooth sample without air bubbles or the reading can be harder to interpret. After using it a few times I got the hang of it, but beginners should expect a small learning curve.

Great Addition to Our Small Food

Posted by Patrick Coleman on 5th Aug 2026

We make specialty fruit spreads and pepper jellies for local markets, and consistency is one of the biggest challenges. Different fruit crops contain different amounts of natural sugar, so cooking by time alone doesn't always produce the same finished product. This refractometer has become part of our production process. We now verify Brix before filling jars, which has dramatically improved consistency between batches. The optical scale is bright and easy to interpret, and calibration has remained stable after months of regular use. The housing feels solid, the rubber grip makes it comfortable to hold, and cleanup is quick with warm water. Considering how inexpensive this instrument is compared to commercial laboratory equipment, we're extremely satisfied with its performance.

    Simple and Reliable

Posted by Ashley Nicole on 5th Aug 2026

I've used this for jam, jelly, and fruit butter with excellent results. The focus adjusts easily, and the boundary line is nice and sharp. Definitely a useful tool if you're trying to make every batch consistent.

    Excellent for Thick Sauces

Posted by Robert James Walker on 5th Aug 2026

I bought this specifically for measuring homemade ketchup and tomato paste. The 28-62 Brix range is exactly what I needed since lower-range refractometers aren't ideal for thicker products. The readings are consistent, easy to read, and calibration only took a minute. Great quality for the price.

Our family taps maple trees every spring, and this refractometer has become one of the most useful tools we own. It's simple enough that anyone in the family can use it after a quick explanation, yet accurate enough that we trust it when deciding whether another round of boiling is needed. We've also used it for honey blends, fruit syrups, and homemade caramel sauce. The reading line is easy to distinguish, calibration hasn't drifted, and cleanup is fast. After an entire season of regular use it still looks almost new. I would absolutely purchase this model again.

Great Tool for Cottage Food Business

Posted by Daniel R on 3rd Aug 2026

I run a small farmers market business selling jams and fruit preserves. Consistency is important, and this refractometer has helped me produce much more uniform batches. The build quality feels much better than I expected. The metal housing is sturdy, the focus adjusts smoothly, and the included carrying case keeps everything protected. Highly recommended for anyone making preserves on a regular basis.

Excellent for Small Batch Jam Making

Posted by Sarah M on 3rd Aug 2026

I've been making homemade strawberry and blueberry jam for years, and this refractometer has taken all the guesswork out of reaching the proper sugar concentration. It's easy to calibrate, requires only a tiny sample, and the scale is very easy to read. Excellent quality for the price.
