ADE RD3-009 Shake Awake Red Dot + Optic Mounting Plate for Ruger Security 380

Shipping was fast and the machining looked good, but I did have to spend more time than expected getting everything adjusted and sighted in. The optic itself functions fine now, but the initial setup wasn't as smooth as I had hoped. I think experienced shooters will have no problem, but beginners should be prepared to spend some extra time reading the manual and making careful adjustments.

What attracted me was getting both the optic and the mounting plate together. Everything arrived well packaged and installation took less than half an hour. The red dot is crisp, the controls are intuitive, and the optic has stayed secure through several hundred rounds. I appreciate that the package also includes a Picatinny mount if I ever decide to move it to another firearm. That flexibility alone makes this a great buy.

I bought this mostly for range use, but now I don't want to shoot without it. Finding the dot became second nature after only a couple of practice sessions. The optic feels solid, adjustments are simple, and accuracy at 15 to 20 yards improved immediately.

I like to thoroughly test equipment before reviewing it. Since installing this optic on my Ruger Security 380, I've spent several months practicing presentations from concealment, dry fire in the garage, and weekly range trips. The shake-awake feature has worked exactly as advertised. Every time I draw the pistol the dot is immediately visible, and I haven't noticed any unnecessary battery drain. The brightness settings are easy to cycle through and remain visible in both indoor ranges and bright outdoor sunlight. I've now fired somewhere around 850 rounds without needing to re-zero. The mounting plate has remained tight, the optic hasn't shifted, and the glass still looks excellent despite regular cleaning and holster use. Considering the complete package includes both the optic and mounting plate, I think it's one of the better values currently available for the Security 380 platform.

The optic itself appears well made, but I struggled figuring out which mounting screws were intended for my pistol. Everything eventually fit correctly, but it took longer than expected. Once installed it worked well, so I wouldn't call it a bad product. I just think the hardware could be labeled more clearly for first-time installers.

I've owned optics that cost three times as much, and while this isn't intended to compete with those, it performs far better than I expected. The included plate saves both money and time, and the optic has been reliable through several range trips. My only suggestion would be including slightly more detailed installation instructions for new shooters.
