    • ADE Advanced Optics 1-Degree Tapered Shim for Red Dot Sights

This optic shim is designed to fit between your red dot sight and the mounting plate to help achieve proper zeroing—especially in situations where the dot remains too high, even with elevation adjustment maxed out.

Fits the Following Red Dot Sights that has a Doctor footprint:

      • Burris Fastfire II, III

      • Docter/Noblex

      • Vortex Venom & Viper

      • Insight

      • EOTech MRDS

      • Sightmark Mini Reflex

      • Meopta

      • ADE Advanced Optics models: RD3-006, RD3-009, RD3-012, RD3-013, RD3-015, RD3-028

All trademarks mentioned belong to their respective owners. This shim is made by ADE as a mounting accessory and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the brands listed above.

      Key Features:

      • Corrects Elevation Issues
Ideal when your red dot sight cannot be adjusted low enough to zero properly. The shim raises the rear of the sight to adjust the point of impact downward.

      • 1.0 Degree Taper
        Precision-cut shim with a 1-degree taper and +/- .005 tolerance.

      • Elevation Adjustment Aid

        • Thicker side at rear: Lowers the point of aim

        • Thicker side at front: Raises the point of aim

      • Durable & Universal
Designed to work across a wide range of optics and firearms—especially helpful on certain 1911 platforms.

      • Quick and Easy Installation
Simply place between the optic and the mounting plate. Re-zero after installation.

      What It Solves:
When users are unable to bring the dot low enough due to limited elevation adjustment—this shim lifts the optic slightly to provide additional downward travel for the dot, solving a common "maxed-out elevation screw" issue without returning or replacing the optic.

Good product for handgun mount elevation correction

Posted by Andy Harmon on 2nd Jul 2025

Works great, only reason for 4 out of 5 stars is the 4 alignment holes do not line up exactly to the sight/plate, once held in place and tightened down, no problems! All in all, great product and inexpensive fix!

Shim requires a bit of modification but serves its purpose

Posted by OC on 2nd Jul 2025

Does not fit alignment pins as holes are too wide apart of shim. Had make holes oblong toward each other by about 1mm. It functions after modification of plactic shim. Vortex Viper open battery older model functions fine as contacts are internal to optic.

    Nice despite a minor flaw

Posted by Adam Schultz on 2nd Jul 2025

Moved the butt end of my Venom red dot just enough to get the additional adjustment i needed. Problem came with the holes that match up with the mount posts, they were about 1mm too close to each other from front to back. Fixed it with a knife, but would be nice if it just dropped in without having to mess around with it.

This plate helped solve my elevation issues I was having with a Burris Fastfire on a Rossi 92. I had to oval the front holes to make it sit flat on the base. No problem with the other (more important) holes and it went on as designed. Good product!!!

    Good shim BUT...

    Posted by Cosmic11do2 on 2nd Jul 2025

This is a 1-degree shim for use with high mount dot sights to tip them down a little bit. That part is just fine but the dimensions for the holes to mate to the pins with the Burris type mount plate are not accurate. They are too far apart in the long dimension. I was able to file the front holes oval and make it fit without buckling. The other thing to be aware of is that the thicker part of the shim may use up the entire rear mount pins, so the dot sight is positioned only with the front pins and the mount screws. This may be an issue if you need to remove to replace the battery as you will have to re-zero after.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does not fit out of the package but can be tweaked since it is just plastic.

Posted by chalug on 2nd Jul 2025

I purchased this shim because, like many others, the red dot that I just mounted and tried to zero has reached the upper extent. I am a little disappointed that this is made from plastic and so, a little leery as to how long it will last. One of the first things I noticed, when I attempted to add it to my optics mount, is that it did not just fit. The style of the mount is designed to fit a Vortex Venom. The mount plate I purchased it branded ADE, just like this shim. The holes were a little to far apart from front to back. So, I took a razor knife and trimmed, very carefully, around the inside of the front holes (thin end) toward the rear holes. Just tiny scrapings until, when I placed shim on the mount, it would just lay on there. That worked and the optic is now mounted. Today I am going to go to the range and give it a shot. Update February 13, 2021. This shim has held up well. Siting in the red dot was quick and accurate. I gave it one more star.

    Affordable, efficient and effective

Posted by Nick on 2nd Jul 2025

I was having a hard time getting my red dot lowered enough to begin sighting in on my M&P Shield Full Frame pistol, so off to Amazon I went. After doing a quick search for “pistol sight shim”, the Ade shim popped up near the top of the search feature. So I figured that I might as well give it a shot since it cost like $10. Shipping was quick; delivered two days after order, like most prime products. The product feels like plastic…but I believe it is still metallic as the battery for my sight is operational and could only conduct with a metallic object. I didn’t have any issues with mounting like some of the other complaints, everything seemed to line up perfect. The only issue I had was figuring out what screws to use that came with my mounting plate, as the normal ones weren’t quite long enough once I added in the shim. I did have an extra set of screws that fit perfect so it came together pretty well. Once tightened down, everything looks good and feels tight, which is what anyone would want when using precision optics mounts. My only gripe, if you could call it one, is that it just “feels cheap” due to it being pretty flimsy…but hell, what can you expect with with a 1 degree shim? If you’re on the fence, just make the decision to get one. It worked out very well for me and should for you as well.

Fixed my Vortex Venom on a Beretta APX A1

Posted by Jon A on 29th Jun 2025

It did the job as described. It's made out of plastic, but it's very even and level. Running from 1.5mm at its thickest to paper then towards the front. I need a shim on my new Beretta APX A1. The plate from Beretta to mount a RDO on the slide is for a Burris Fast Fire, Vortex Venom or Docter. However, the plate is flat with no anticipation for the extreme angle and short distances between the RDO, front sight, and EDC distances. The Venom mounted directly to the APX saw my boresight and red dot to be off by like 50 MOA and at 15 yards, about 2 feet low between laser and dot. This shim helped solve that. Mounted between the mounting plate and RDO, it added about a degree or two downwards to the front. I was able to dial in the RDO well within the elevation range. The only complaint was the outer holes are a little off. I had to elongate two of the holes to fit on the raised locating pins on the corners. Also consider buying screws that are 1mm longer too. With the shim adding around 1mm of thickness, the screws on my APX only have about 1 and a half threads to grab the slide now. Before it had a solid 2+ threads.

I mounted this on a custom P80 Glock 17 and it lined up everything for my Vortex 3MOA red dot perfectly. It didn’t take much to get all the dots and pegs to line up. Yes, you will have to do some carving, but the small $10 investment in this part made my build all come together. For a custom build, you should expect to make modifications to make it all sing in harmony, so for me, this was probably the easiest mod to get the build all running smoothly. I used a drill bit that fit snuggly in the existing hole and gently elongated them with just a few twists of the bit by hand, less than 5 minutes of effort. Recovered at least half of my elevation adjustment. Only about 150 rounds in since install, but so far no issues and zero is held.

OK, I read all the reviews on this item. The one that stands out is the one where the buyer used a drill bit to enlarge the holes. My shim did not line up correctly so I used his method. You must have patience and take your time in doing this. Once I put everything together, I needed to get longer screws so I ordered them from a Seller on eBay. They are #6-48 x 9/16. This worked perfectly. I will be shooting this weekend to see how it holds up. I put the Burris Fastfire III on my Kimber Ultra Carry Pro II.

Getting your red dot to point right

Posted by SteveH on 21st Jun 2025

I've been shooting in Carry Optic division for some time, and sent the slide of my competition pistol to be milled for my red dot sight. The milling and refinishing was perfect, and the sight mounted down in the slide was better than before, mounted on a rear-sight dovetail plate. Almost perfect. When re-zeroing the sight, it ran out of vertical adjustment just *barely* before it was exactly right. (Not the fault of the machining.) Deciding I needed to install a shim to get things just right, I chose get an Ade Advanced Optics shim (make absolutely certain that you're getting the right shim for your RDS), installed it in a couple minutes, needing no tools other than the driver bit for installing the sight's screws (use thread locker). The sight is visually perfect in its milled slot, completely solid, not showing any shim at all, short of using a magnifier. The result on re-zeroing is that the vertical adjustment is near the middle of its range, and life is good. Now, if this 70+ year old continues to practice and improve, all will be well.

    A Perfect Solution

Posted by Doc on 20th Jun 2025

I have many firearms with red dots, including a number of Vortex Venoms. I sent my Glock 21 slide to be milled for another Vortex Venom. When it arrived back to me, the fitment onto the slide seemed very precise. However, I could not lower the elevation to closer than about 55 MOA from POA / POI. I was trying to imagine how I could resolve this without either sending my slide back for re-milling and waiting another 4-6 weeks, or should I remove one of my other well-zeroed Venoms from its host to check the incline of the milling on my slide. I racked my brain to figure out how I could securely shim the Venom on my G21. That's when I, on a whim< entered "venom Red Dot Shim" into Amazon's search. VOILA! This product popped up. I just mounted it to check, then blue Loctited it. It is now perfectly zeroed. Granted, my elevation adjustment is maxed out, but it IS perfectly zeroed. I will know in a month or so if it holds that adjustment, but I see no overt reason why it will not! HIGHLY recommend!

    The Most Practical Solution

Posted by Donna B. on 20th Jun 2025

I purchased one of the FNX-45 tactical models that came with the Vortex Venom as a package deal. No matter what I did, I could not get the red dot even close to Zero. I maxed out my "UP" adjustment and was still consistently 7 inches low of my target. Not knowing exactly what was wrong, I watched a video suggesting one of these shims as a solution instead of having my slide milled some more. Well, purchased one shim, and it fit perfectly, installed easily, and I was able to reduce my "UP" adjustment way down, and still have much room for fine tuning either direction now. If you have this same red dot problem with your FNX-45, this is the most practical solution instead of getting more milling on your slide. Not sure why FN doesn't include one of these shims with all of their guns with a red dot mount cut-out. I see I am not the first person who has had this problem with one of their guns.

So I originally bought the Venom for my Mossberg 590, since it came with a Picatinny/side saddle attachment but unfortunately the sight did not adjust enough, and shot placement was low, even at max settings. This shim fit perfectly on the mount that came with the optic, no modifications needed, and functioned exactly as described. I haven’t had a chance to take it out yet, but it does fit well, and appears to line the sight window up slightly better than without it. Will see in a week when I have a chance to take it out. But for a stock vortex venom, it fits.

After a few weeks of researching shims I decided on this one. I was pleasantly surprised with how it bolted on my pistol. Everything lined up perfectly and I am well pleased with the product.

It was what I needed to add some elevation to my red dot. Good price.

    Shim plate

I added this to my Ruger-57 with a Vortex Venom red dot. I immediately fixed the problem with not being able to adjust the dot far enough down.

    Ade shim

At first I was disappointed. They never stated the shim was made of plastic and then when I went to put it on my vortex venom mounting plate the holes didn’t match up. So I had to modify it. I was not happy but when I took the gun to the range. I was able to zero it in and the gun ran fine. So I guess it’s ok and hopefully it holds up

    Shim Sational!

I fought with red dots for months trying and trying to zero and stay zero'd. These give a good solid base and just enough elevation to get any site zero'd.

Shim works as advertised, the alignment holes for the B 1 mount are a little off but fixable......
