PLEASE READ THE GUIDE BELOW BEFORE MAKING THE PURCHASE OF THE 308 RAIL

SELECTING A HANDGUARD FOR YOUR AR-10/AR-308/LR-308?

The family of rifles generally referred to as "AR-10"s or "AR-308"s encompasses a variety of rifles from a variety of manufacturers.  Although similar in appearance and function, different rifles may have different upper receiver designs with parts that may or may not be interchangeable.  This situation makes shopping for a free float quad rail or handguard a bit complicated.

AR-10 style rifles have a few different commonly used barrel nut designs (the attachment point for a free float handguard), each of which is compatible only with a free float quad rail or handguard built specifically for that design.  The two most common standards are for the original AR-10 and for the DPMS LR-308.  Both of these standards are now used by a number of different manufacturers.

Armalite AR-10 Style Handguards

The original AR-10 was developed in the 1950’s by ArmaLite, who still owns the AR-10 trademark and sells the only rifle officially called the AR-10. ArmaLite AR-10 rifles use their own proprietary barrel nut standard which is incompatible with most AR-10/308 derivative rifle models on the market. The thread specifications for the AR-10 barrel nut are 1-7/16” and 18 TPI-3A. Besides ArmaLite, some popular rifle models that have licensed and use this barrel nut design include the Eagle Arms AR-10 the Noveske N6.  Handguards compatible with these rifles are offered by LaRue, PRI, Badger Ordinance and Daniel Defense among others.

DPMS LR-308 Style Handguards

Rifle maker DPMS would go on to develop their own AR-10 style rifle called the LR-308, with the same general design but with a number of parts incompatible across platforms including the barrel nut/handguard. The barrel nut standard based on the popular DPMS LR-308 has become the most widely adopted on the market.  The thread specifications for the LR-308 barrel nut are 1-7/16” and 16 TPI-
2A. Numerous manufacturers make rifles using the LR-308 barrel nut standard including the Remington R25 and the Bushmaster 308 ORC.

*Please note that while the barrel nut standard for the DPMS LR-308 rifles has remained the same, there are two different versions of DPMS upper receiver that differ in the height of the receiver rail.  Upper receivers manufactured before August 2009 have a high profile receiver rail, while upper receivers manufactured after August 2009 have a low profile receiver rail.  Handguards made for the low profile receiver will still fit the older receiver, but the top rail will not align squarely with the receiver top rail.

We carrie Made in USA low profile DPMS LR-308 pattern free float Keymod and Mlok rails in a variety of lengths at the lowest prices anywhere starting at just $49.95.

DPMS GII Handguards
To confuse matters further, in 2014 DPMS released the DPMS GII 308 rifle.  The DPMS GII is likewise, a DPMS made .308 rifle with an AR style design.  However, the GII uses its own proprietary barrel nut standard.  GII barrel nuts are not interchangeable with LR-308 barrel nuts.

Other Non-Standard/Proprietary Handguards

Besides these standards, several other manufacturers of AR-10 style rifles use their own non-standard or proprietary style of barrel nut including Ruger SR-762 and the Daniel Defense DD5 V1.

Good rail but check compatibility first

Posted by Mark on 16th Mar 2026

The handguard itself is well made and lightweight, and once installed it feels very solid. However, I initially tried installing it on a .308 upper that turned out to be a different height specification, so the rail didn’t align properly at first. After switching to a compatible low-profile DPMS-style upper it worked perfectly. Just make sure to confirm compatibility before purchasing.

    Very solid free-float handguard

Posted by Brian Mitchell on 16th Mar 2026

The installation process was much easier than I expected. The included barrel nut fit perfectly and the rail tightened down securely. Once installed, the handguard feels extremely rigid and stable. I’ve been very impressed with the overall performance.

    Clean look and great functionality

Posted by David Peterson on 16th Mar 2026

This handguard really improved the overall look of my AR-308 build. The slim design and continuous top rail give the rifle a very clean appearance. It also improved the handling because the handguard is much lighter than my previous one. It’s a great combination of style and functionality.

    Handles recoil easily

Posted by Christopher Adams on 16th Mar 2026

I’ve put several hundred rounds through my .308 since installing this handguard and it has remained completely solid. The barrel nut and mounting system hold everything tightly in place and the rail doesn’t shift at all. The aluminum construction feels durable enough for long-term use.

    Plenty of mounting options

Posted by Anthony Delgado on 16th Mar 2026

The M-LOK system on this rail makes it easy to attach accessories exactly where they’re needed. I mounted a light, vertical grip, and sling mount without any issues. The rail feels sturdy and the accessories lock in place securely. The slim design also keeps the rifle from feeling bulky.

Perfect for my precision .308 rifle

Posted by Ryan on 16th Mar 2026

I installed this handguard on my precision .308 build and it has performed very well so far. The free-float design keeps pressure off the barrel which helps maintain accuracy, especially when using a bipod. The slim profile also makes the rifle feel much more balanced. Overall I’m very satisfied with the performance.

High quality at a reasonable price

Posted by Tyler Henderson on 16th Mar 2026

Many .308 handguards cost significantly more than this one, but the quality of the ADE PRO rail is comparable to much more expensive options. The slim profile makes the rifle easier to handle and the M-LOK slots provide plenty of mounting flexibility. Installation was straightforward and the rail feels very secure once tightened.

    Clean finish and precise fit

Posted by Michael Ramirez on 16th Mar 2026

The machining quality on this handguard really impressed me. The edges are smooth, the anodized finish looks great, and the rail alignment is excellent. Once installed, the handguard feels extremely rigid and doesn’t flex even when mounting accessories like a bipod. It’s clear that a lot of attention was given to the design and manufacturing.

    Light but very sturdy

Posted by Daniel Carter on 16th Mar 2026

My goal with this build was to keep my AR-308 as lightweight as possible while still maintaining durability. This handguard was a great choice because it weighs only a few ounces but still feels very strong. The M-LOK system also keeps the rail slim while still allowing plenty of accessory mounting options. I’m very happy with how it turned out.

Perfect fit for my DPMS upper

Posted by Kevin on 16th Mar 2026

I used this handguard on a DPMS low-profile .308 upper and the fit was perfect. The included barrel nut installed easily and the rail slid on smoothly once everything was aligned. The top Picatinny rail lines up nicely with the receiver and gives the rifle a clean continuous rail look. After several range trips it has held up extremely well.

    Excellent slim profile design

Posted by Jason Delgado on 16th Mar 2026

One of the biggest advantages of this handguard is how slim it feels in the hand. The 1.49-inch width makes it much easier to grip than many bulky .308 rails on the market. The M-LOK slots allow me to attach accessories exactly where I want them without adding unnecessary weight. The machining and finish are very clean and professional looking. For a lightweight .308 rail, this is an excellent option.

    Extremely lightweight and solid handguard

Posted by Brandon on 16th Mar 2026

I installed this ADE PRO 10" M-LOK handguard on my DPMS-pattern .308 rifle and I’m very impressed with the overall design and quality. The handguard is incredibly lightweight but still feels very strong thanks to the 7075 aluminum construction. The slim profile makes the rifle much more comfortable to grip compared to my previous quad rail. Installation was straightforward using the included steel barrel nut and mounting screws, and everything lined up perfectly. Once tightened down, the handguard felt completely solid with no movement. After several range sessions the rail has remained secure and the free-float design definitely improved the overall balance of the rifle.
